George Gachechiladze: “Elections have been totally falsified”

The leader of Georgia Greens Party at a conference arranged on June 3, gave the estimation to this year elections -“as it is known, prior to elections the Central election commission didn’t register the Greens Party. I want to thank very much “All People’s Democrats” and Nika Ivanishvili for giving us an opportunity to take part in elections. I was a candidate for parliament major deputy in Chugureti district. The authorities have totally falsified the elections. For this purpose three methods have been used: so called “Armenian roundabout”, annulment of ballot – papers, which made up as much as 10% (!!!). All this was done in broad daylight, openly, for everybody to see. Nevertheless, in elections I have obtained 10 percent, but actually – 20-21%. By logical calculations in case our Party had been registered, we would have taken 16-18 percents on Tbilisi scale. That means that according the results we would have occupied the second or the third place. In that case the Greens Party would have become a qualified subject, could have included its representatives in election commissions, would have received financing from the state budget, television channels would have been obliged to highlight the Party activities.
But strengthening of uncompromising, really opposing party doesn’t suit Saakashvili Government. We think that was the very reason of our non – registration in elections. The Greens Party will demand a recount of votes stated in Chugureti election district by appealing to the court. In future, within the limits of constitution we intend to join in all political processes that will put an end to arbitrary performance of the present authorities in our country”, declared George Gachechiladze.
